Run Kwekx2 Run! Review
7. May 2018

The last time I saw some turtles in action, was definitely while watching or playing a spinoff published under the umbrella of the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Heroes Whatever Turtles” franchise. Whereas the Renaissance turtles are roughly as old as I am, this yet unnamed turtle here is freshly hatched, class of 2018.

Yes, In “Tap ‘n Dash” by Snouty Plays, you follow a little turtle boy, let’s call him Greeny, to the finish line by quick-solving picture quizzes. In each round, you have to decide within a really short timespan, five seconds or so, which of the three symbols below match the symbol above. 5 seconds?! Well, at least I saved some time to write the review. 😉

Tap N Dash Gameplay

Come on, Greeny! It’s Buddenbrooks, not Butterbooks.

As soft as butter

Everything about “Tap ‘n Dash” is as soft and smooth as butter. Although the game is ex-treme-ly fast, there are no lags or glitches. All animations and transitions are as flawless as the picture puzzles itself. And they make perfect sense! A water drop is similar to an ice cube and a log of wood is similar to a sheet of paper. You don’t have to mull over the puzzles, you can focus on speed. And it makes a lot of fun to compete against your best time. Actually, it’s a good app to train and improve your reflexes without having the boring appearance of many learning apps.

Juicing it up

I guess with the cute character, the good graphics, the smooth performance and the two game modes, “Snouty Plays” laid a great foundation for this app. Yet, there are still a few opportunities to juice it up a little. First of all, a bit more love for the main character wouldn’t hurt, right? Greeny is a real cutie, why not giving him a bit more room to shine? Secondly, I think the music is right-paced and straight, but it’s certainly lacking some variety. Last but not least, I think the developers should add at least one shorter puzzle round. At the moment, you have to solve a minimum of 60 puzzles, which is already quite exhausting due to the high level of speed and concentration you have to keep up. Why not adding a round of 50 puzzles? Or 30?

Butter and buttercream cake go very well together, right?

The Verdict
