Starlost – Space Shooter Review

You have watched almost all of the Animes out there? You read mangas on your commute, during long winter nights and even the short summer ones? And then, after you’ve discovered the great and endlessly fun world of merchandise it is too confusing and time consuming to search for all the places and stores that sell those great limited-edition figures, books, pillows and key chains? Don’t worry, that’s where this helpful app comes into play: “Otaku-ket“, the shopping assistant for anime & manga goods.

Find hidden gems at new shops

You might know the biggest stores and shops around, but what if a figure is not available there anymore or you want to know the best price? This app is great to discover new websites, so you’ll get the chance to snatch a scarce item! (And I know what I am talking about, as I am always on the hunt for rare Sailor Moon items, that are usually sold out quickly.) It even tells you the general categories of merchandise that are sold at the respective inventories. Also, if you are missing a place, you can suggest it to the developer as well!

Another great feature is the integration of different currencies as the embedded stores use various currencies. Currently, you can save the prices in Dollar $, Yen ¥, Pounds £ and Euros €.

The whole app is brought together buy its simple and clean design, that makes it easy and intuitive to use. You just have to click the magnifier and type in your search words. Then you click onto the shops and a new window opens. When you find the best price, you can save it in the app and it then shows at the bottom of the screen, so you don’t have to remember it. Easy, isn’t it?

The more, the merrier

“Otaku-ket” is a great base to start your search. With just a few improvements it could become an even more helpful tool.

The most important tweak I’d suggest is adding the option to save multiple searches. One is just not sufficient, especially if you are searching for more than one work of an author, a figurine set or miscellaneous merch in general. Additionally, I think it would be great to be able to mark or grey out a shop in case they don’t have what the user is looking for or if it’s sold out.

Another beneficial addition would be an added page for shipping information since that is what makes a huge impact on the price point and therefore the true ‘best price’ when ordering from overseas. Maybe it would be even great to have an overview of customs duties or some general advice on how to spot fakes from originals. So all in all, I’d love to have some further information to take some work out of the user’s hands.
