The Walking Eddie is our 2017 summer hit and the best game that we've reviewed so far.

Everything good comes from Estonia! Skype, My Harp and “The Walking Eddie” by Creepy Koala. It’s a brand-new Android game, that looks so much like a triple A title, that I am hesitating to stick the “indie” label on it. Nevertheless, it’s suitable for a review – and here it comes.

The Walking (D)E(a)d

I understood that reference

The Walking Ed(die) = The Walking Dead. Got it. 🙂

To be honest, the visuals of this game look less like “The Walking Dead” than “Plants vs. Zombies” and there’s a certain reason behind this: “The Walking Eddie” is casual to a core, a game that you can play with your whole family. Like in “Lemmings“, you have to prepare a run through the level by adding items pointing the running ones into the right direction to get a fresh load of human brains (unlike in Lemmings). Like we are used to it, you’ll get rewarded with a three stars system (or three brains in our case) measuring the efficiency of how you’ve completed each and every level. So far, so good?

The Walking Eddie Intro

BOO! The short cutscene at the beginning shows how Eddie became Eddie and is very well done.

“What’s in your head, zombie?”

Given that we’re reviewing an indie game, I have to emphasize once again, that this game has brilliant graphics and a fluent and thought-out gameplay without any flaws. You can feel the quality in every animation, every sound, and every perfectly designed level. Actually, it’s the first time that I’m struggling to find the mandatory suggestions for improvements, but … well… let me think… ehm… … ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Okay, no one will believe me that I’ve actually played this game when I don’t say anything negative about it. In that case, let me just point out a few things, people could criticize (but I don’t). For example, the advertisement breaks are rather long (~30 seconds non-skippable ads), which will annoy many people from “Generation Adblock”, who won’t pay the 2,39€ for an ad-free version either. Secondly, the game doesn’t reinvent the wheel. It’s neither based on a groundbreaking game idea like Shape-Cast nor will it convince people who hate mobile games to reevaluate their opinion like Into The Darkness. Thirdly, … well… let’s leave it at that. 🙂

The Walking Eddie Level

Can anyone here solve this level?

What we love about “The Walking Eddie”

  • Funny approach to a zombie game
  • Fantastic visuals
  • Balanced and fair

What other people would like to see in “The Walking Eddie 2”

  • Less and shorter advertisements
  • Less expensive ad-free version
  • More innovation and creativity

Zombie (R)evolution?

Product-wise, there is no single reason why this game shouldn’t rush the Google Play charts to become one of the most successful games of 2017. It is a superb mainstream mobile game, done from an indie studio, that deserves to be successful with it. The only thing, that could rain on their parade is bad timing. Zombie games have already scaled the heights of their popularity and it will be very hard for a new studio to enter this saturated genre. However, every one of you could help them reaching the top by downloading The Walking Eddie now!
