Cylynder Warp sounds like a great game - in the truest sense of the word.

Alright, bartenders, it’s time to invent a new drink: Let’s take a bit from the story of Matrix, a sip from the visuals from Tron, a big gulp from the gameplay of SpeedX 3D and a trace of WipeOut. Sounds like an energizing new drink, right? Let’s call it “Cylynder Warp” and we’ll see if it tastes as exciting as it sounds.

The Warp Zone

First of all: This mobile game comes along with a real story and that’s one big plus right at the beginning. In “Cylynder Warp”, you infiltrate the evil E.C.O.RE network in order to free mankind by surfing on data pipelines with your voxel program (which is some sort of orbital glider). It’s the popular man-vs-machine fight, we’ve already fought as Neo (Matrix), Jerry (Eagle Eye) & Co – but we’re still not finished!

Cylynder Warp Gameplay

Surfin’ E.C.O.RE instead of Surfin’ U.S.A.

Do we call for an e.n.co.re?

I am completely honest: “Cylynder Warp” wasn’t love at first sight, but love at first sound. Mazzutakgame managed it to embed an electro-trance soundtrack, that even made me pump up the volume. And I totally love the female-robot sounds commenting your gameplay (WipeOut sends its greetings). I am delighted to see that the game is so well-thought, that everything fits perfectly together. The story fits the visuals fits the soundscape fits the gameplay. If there was a medal for consistency, “Cylynder Warp” would win the golden one.

However, all that glitters is not gold and there are a few things we have to point out here. The graphics, for instance, do match the theme but have some room for improvement: somehow, the user interface is a bit overloaded with information, sometimes, the camera changes its position to an inconvenient angle, and some of the bonus items are accompanied by a rather ugly text label. As it’s quite intuitive that you gain, let’s say, some extra time, if you collect a clock symbol, I guess we can spare a label telling us, especially if it looks like this.

One more thing: Pleaaase shorten the respawn time! It doesn’t take a lifetime as in Ginger Roll to start over again, but I feel it would fit the fast-paced theme even better if we speed it up a little.

Cylynder Warp Explosion

All good things come to an (explosive) end.

What we love about “Cylynder Warp”

  • Cool Story
  • Amazing Soundtrack
  • Great Gameplay

What we’d like to see in “Cylynder Warp 2”

  • A cleaner user interface
  • No item labels
  • Immediate Respawn

“Let’s do the time warp again!”

To put it in a nutshell, “Cylynder Warp” is an enjoyable game thanks to its great setting and an even greater soundscape. There are some minor flaws that can we wiped out easily to make it a entirely enjoyable gaming experience. A very good indie game, that you can download for free here.
