“Soft kitty, warm kitty,
Little ball of fur,
Happy kitty, sleepy kitty,
Purr, purr, purr.”

Sheldon’s lullaby was the first thing that came to my mind, when seeing this game (and its title). Except, I needed a “game boy version” of it- and guess what! I’ve found it here! It is perfect to get you in the mood for the review of this cute app. Sound on and read on!

Retrokitty Gameplay

Game boy kitty looks kinda confused.

Retro Kitty Cuteness

In “RetroKitty” you have to use a Baseball bat to hit the balls in the right order of color that is shown in the top section of your gaming screen. It is easily explained and equally as easy to get into and play. With the help of the arrows of the directional pad, you can control the direction the bat hits. The handling is very convenient and reacts accordingly.

The great controls are augmented with an even greater design. The design of the kitty, the buttons, the controls, the animations, the fonts- everything is consistently designed. The tail of the kitty even looks like a plug. Isn’t it adorable? The colors that are used within the app give you that retro feel. Another plus point are the colorblind-friendly graphics.

Lastly, I like that there are no ads that invade your game experience. I do realize that ads are necessary for the developer to make a living, so I don’t mind some advertisement if it is integrated reasonably. But with this app, nothing is obtruding the fun.

Silently hitting the ball

While no annoying things are distracting you while hitting the balls, you hear nothing but the sounds of balls… nothing… ball… nothing… ball… – Some more sounds and music would be very appreciated. It is just more fun!

Secondly, I would love to have more levels. Currently, it is possible to pass twenty of them. Depending on your skill level, you will reach the last one rather quickly. But I am sure, the apps’ developer Artur Barichello is working on that already. However, if you’ve done all of the levels you are able to play random stages.

Lastly, I would like to have any kind of reward or power-ups for further motivation. I imagine it would be fun to have a 360-degree swishing move. Or to unlock a lightsaber etc.
