10. April 2018Don't let the latest RPG you've played be your "Final Fantasy" as there's even more to discover!
Are you a fan of role playing games on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System/Famicon? Are you reminiscent of RPG’s like Secret of Mana, Lufia, Terranigma or Exodus? Do you miss playing those old gems? Fear not, because the new Windows game Lurking Immortui is a classic RPG inspired by Ultima III!
Extensive world in an old school getup
The retro design is authentic. If you are longing for this mushy feeling you get when playing games that remind you of the “good, old gaming times”, this title is for you. The commands, the pixel-esque graphics with angular-shaped elements, the cute fighting animations – you’ll get all of it. Together with moody background music, it creates an awesome atmosphere, that invites you to explore this open fantasy world. As the official description of the game spoilers you, there are “hundreds of NPCs to converse with, hordes of bloodthirsty foes, dozens of secrets, puzzles, and piles of weapons, armor, special items”, spells, songs and skills to discover. That means, there are hours of fun ahead of you!
Open World Madness
Besides those nostalgic feelings, you will also remember the pain some of these oldies brought with them. This game can be frustrating as well as you walk, stroll, hike and roam around a lot with no clear goal in mind. Even though it is an interesting concept, that noone guides you along, the missions could be clearer, especially in the beginning. I spent a looot of time just talking with people and, well, walking around. While I appreciate the humor that some characters have and the nice landscape, a direction on what I have to do in the beginning would have been nice. I’ve also learned some spells and songs – which I can’t use, since I don’t know how. There is no library of spells or anything, so it makes it hard to use your newfound skills.
Lastly, just a minor thing: I would suggest putting “Lurking” in the title screen of the game. It was kind of confusing when all of the data folders are called “Lurking” but the game itself is named “Immortui” only.
- Hommage to the old times
- Open World
- Music
- Precise name of the game
- Clearer missions
- Library of Spells
The Verdict
As you probaly can tell, I am a huge fan of classic RPG’s and I would highly suggest, you give this game a try here.
