Escape From Space Review

18. December 2018Ever since you’ve watched Pirates of the Caribbean, you’ve dreamed of hunting for treasures? But your sea sickness gets in the way? Don’t despair: You can dig for treasures in the ground as well in “Haunting for Treasure”! But be careful as they are guarded by restless ghosts. Are you intrigued to find out more? Keep on digging!
Charming treasure hunt
The design is very appealing. Right from the start screen to the level design until the shop. To me it is like a great mix between a retro look and a hand-drawn children’s book. But it is not too childish or dusty either. It definitely has it’s own character!
Combined with the easy gameplay and creative ideas it is an engaging game. I like the various boosters that you can add and ghosts that almost seem to have their own personalities.
If you don’t know how to begin or if you are stuck, there is a detailed tutorial that accompanies you through the beginnings. And the further info screens (that work like a glossary) are helpful as well and help you to remember the functions of the items.
Slightly tinged treasure
“Hunting for Treasure” is a well-rounded game, that only needs some minor improvements to shine even brighter. Firstly, I would to see more precision when canceling the chosen route. I often would mark my route (maybe a bit too) enthusiastically and then some dangerous ghosts appear. So the need arises to cancel the chosen path. Unfortunately, that doesn’t work every time and the rope gets severed.
Secondly, I would prefer the game to have more music themes. While I like the acoustic music, that is used so far and it fits the game well, it just gets a bit repetitive when you play for a longer time.
My last point is a thought for consideration rather than a criticism. I feel this game would be great fun to play in a multi-player mode together with friends. Either as companions or even as enemies, hunter vs. ghost.
